Chickpeas salad with potatoes

Hi my dear readers, long time no see!
Wish everyone has a good day :)
First of all, i have decided to delete my previous post which is a YouTube video. I sincerely apologise to my reader who gave lovely comment on that post. I appreciate the time you have given me to write comment on my post. My readers' comments encouraged me to keep on blogging no matter what. Therefore, i do feel a need to explain my decision to delete the previous post. Since my intention of opening this food blog is to share my humble knowledge on Burmese cuisine as well as Burmese culture with blog readers, the song on this YouTube video doesn't fit into here. Therefore, i have decided to remove it.
Meanwhile, I've also decided to have another blog hey juz blogging to blog in English. That would be my personal blog and would probably blog about anything under the sun =)

I am being too long winded with this post hah? A big THANK YOU for bearing with me :)

Now let me share with you this new recipe - Chickpeas salad with potatoes.
Type of chickpea : Chana-Desi Kala (Cicer arietinum)
Common English name: Chickpeas, Garbanzo beans, Brown Chickpeas, Bengal-Gram
Skin colour : Brown

Serves : 1-2
Preparation Time : 1 hr

Ingredients

  1. 3 potatoes

  2. 1 cup of chickpeas

  3. 1 tablespoon cooking oil

  4. 1 onion, finely sliced

  5. 1 teaspoon masala

  6. 2 tablespoon tamarind juice

  7. seasons to taste

Rinse and drain the chickpeas.
Placed chickpeas and washed potatoes into a cooking pot and add enough water to cover the main ingredients. Cover the lid slightly ajar and cook over a medium heat for about 30 minutes. Then, reduce the heat and let it simmer until both are tender. Drain and let cool before peeling off the potatoes skin.

Note: If necessary, add small amount of water during the boiling process.

For dressing
Heat oil in the saucepan over medium heat.
Add masala into hot oil and turn off the heat.

Preparation
Cut potatoes into bite-sized pieces. Put chickpeas into a salad bowl. Pour masala dressing over and toss well. Add sliced onions, tamarind juice, salt and ajinomoto. Mix all the ingredients well. That's it and ready to enjoy with a cup of hot green tea.

Dear Moulmein Kitchen,
By seeing the picture of potato & lentils salad, I would like to comment you that's not lentils. It's called "Chickpea". Lentil is small & lightly red color.

Dear Nay Mya Mya Swe,

Thank you for correcting my mistake.
I was unsure of the name as it is smaller than the type of chickpea which i have usually seen.
It could be a smaller type of chickpea. Why didn't i think of it??...hmmmm!
Moreover, I failed to make an effort to find out the correct name :(
I will correct it.
Thanks a lot :)

You are always welcome :)

Hello, you can call me Moulmein Thu.

It means lady from Moulmein (now with its original name of Mawlamyine). I was born in Moulmein and later moved to Yangon before moving to Singapore when i was ten years old.

Moulmein is the third largest city of Myanmar (formerly Burma) after Yangon and Mandalay. It is also the capital of Mon State and a seaport. Moulmein is famous for its tropical fruits and for its cuisine.

There is this popular Burmese expression, " Yangon for the bragging, Mandalay for the speaking and Moulmein for the eating".

When i started this blog in July 2009, it was mainly to showcase my humble culinary skills.

My Mum is a good cook and she is my 'Teacher'.
I'm still learning and "stealing" recipes from my Mum ;)
