Travel photos ---- Day Two @ Phnom Penh

A visit to S21: Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum

In 1975, Tuol Svay Prey High School was taken over by Pol Pot's security forces. It was turned into a prison known as Security Prison 21 (S-21). Around 20,000 people were held at S-21, interrogated under torture and were taken to the extermination camp at Choeung Ek to be executed.

A visit to Killing Fields of Choeung Ek

During the Khmer Rouge regime in 1975, this Chinese cemetery became one of the killing fields. Here many of the victims were executed and buried in mass graves. These graves have now been exhumed, and a stupa-shaped mausoleum has been erected in the victims' memory. We also found out from our tour guide that a private Japanese company is in charge of managing the memorial since 2006 in order to develop the Killing Fields as a visitor attraction.

Hello, you can call me Moulmein Thu.

It means lady from Moulmein (now with its original name of Mawlamyine). I was born in Moulmein and later moved to Yangon before moving to Singapore when i was ten years old.

Moulmein is the third largest city of Myanmar (formerly Burma) after Yangon and Mandalay. It is also the capital of Mon State and a seaport. Moulmein is famous for its tropical fruits and for its cuisine.

There is this popular Burmese expression, " Yangon for the bragging, Mandalay for the speaking and Moulmein for the eating".

When i started this blog in July 2009, it was mainly to showcase my humble culinary skills.

My Mum is a good cook and she is my 'Teacher'.
I'm still learning and "stealing" recipes from my Mum ;)
